Browndages Creates True Nude Bandages for Different Shades of Brown

With three small children, Intisar Bashir said her family goes through a lot of bandages. After so many times buying common bandages, Bashir and her husband, Rashid Mahdi, realized that bandages are supposed to be nude. What most stores consider nude, doesn’t fit everyone’s skin tone, especially darker skin individuals, so Bashir and her husband created Browndages.

Browndages are bandages that come in different shades of brown and have children’s options. The children’s bandages have different children dressed in uniforms depicting career jobs, such as being a pilot or veterinarian. The children on the packages are based on Bashir’s own children. The careers are what her children inspire to be.

Bashir and her family are located in Columbus, OH and their company was launched in Nov. of 2018 and has already been mentioned on Forbes.

According to the Forbes’ article, all Browndages’ orders are packaged and shipped by either Bashir or her husband and once in a while, they receive help from their eight and six-year-old daughters.

“If you have an idea, act on it,” said Bashir. “You don’t have to make a million dollars overnight. Everything you need, you can make.”

Bashir doesn’t believe in the saturation of industries. She said there are millions of people on earth and someone’s going to specifically like what you have to offer, even if thousands of others are offering a similar product. She used water as an example because everyday people are coming out with new bottles of water yet people keep trying and buying new water brands.

“You have to bet on yourself,” she said.

According to reviews on Browndages’ site, customers are satisfied. One customer wrote,” Thank you for making these! Was a huge pet peeve of my mom and I growing up - she used to color bandages to be my color.” And another wrote: “As a teacher to mostly black and hispanic [sic] children I always felt silly giving students bandaids that matched my skin tone but not theirs. With Browndages I am able to offer a range of skin tones for children to pick from. The hand written [sic] note was the best and I will definitely now buy all my bandaids from Browndages. Thank you!”

While being a mother and business owner, Bashir, along with her husband, work a 9-5. Being a success doesn’t come overnight and takes a lot of sleepless nights to make it, but Bashir and her family know what they need to do to continue doing great.
