Locals Matter

Locals Matter

She is a woman who wants to help local businesses. Jazmine Cade wants to be that model who makes local clothing the new high-end fashion and be an actress that inspires others.

Jazmine grew up not being comfortable in her own skin. She was bullied because of her features which made her feel unpretty, but now Jazmine knows her true worth.

"I'm very comfortable in my own skin."

Acting helped her escape her own life and enter somebody else's.

"It allowed me to be someone else without being judged."

In a way, she found herself by being someone else. Her younger days taught her to be sympathetic to everyone's situation.

Being an actress is Jazmine's bigger dream, but modeling falls right under that.

She's been modeling for seven years and it all started on a shopping trip. Jazmine was at the mall when an agent walked up to her mom and said Jazmine was beautiful. She auditioned for that agency and made it through. She didn't sign because Jazmine thought it wasn't the right agency for her.

Now she's on the hunt for a manager to promote and point her in the right direction.

Jazmine doesn't mind exposing her body for a shoot, but she prefers to show her beauty with her clothes on.

This year, Jazmine plans on modeling local fashion more than high-end to support her hometown Chicago to the fullest.

"I want to promote the positive things going on in Chicago."

Jazmine has been an extra on the television show Empire several times. While on set she talked to one of her inspirations: Taraji P. Henson.

"I study her a lot," Jazmine said. "I love how she stays in character."

She also looks up to actress Viola Davis and actor Denzel Washington. She loves Viola's drive and commitment to her roles, and she sees Denzel as a potential mentor.

At the age of 21, soon to be 22 on March 19, Jazmine will be moving to California to fight for her dreams. Chicago is her first love, but she knows if she wants to make it big she has to take risk.

"You have to have that faith in yourself."

Jazmine's favorite shoot she's done involved only five percent of her skin showing. She dressed in a white button up with a long black skirt--that shoot showed Jazmine how far she can take modeling.

"There's so many times I want to give up, but something in the back of my mind keeps me going."

Jazmine gives advice to young girls, from time to time, on how to get where she's at. She's not where she wants to be in life, but that doesn't stop her from helping others get to where they want to be.

"It's never too late," she said. "Put your all in it if it's something you really want to do."
